Different Types of RV Washers and Dryers Used in RV
After one starts living an RV dream, life on the road seems to be full of excitement. However, this joy ends, when household chore things start taking up all your time in RV, especially the laundry-work.
Therefore, to put your work at ease, some of the RV manufacturers are nowadays aiming to provide at least one closet equipped with all the essential plumbing fittings in the vehicle. However, some are also providing the RVs fitted with different types of washers and dryers, which lets you devote your free time to all the fun activities while the clothes are being washed.
Before delving into the major types of washers and dryers, it is vital to understand the two main variations that come across its several types.
Vented Machines
With one of the best RV washer dryer combo vented machine, the process of drying clothes use room air. This air is heated and tumbled through the clothes. Next, the exhaust air goes out from the hole made in the RV, so that the machine runs for a longer period without causing any issue.
Non-vented Machines
In this appliance, the process of drying clothes is completed by heating the air inside the drum. This heat collects the moisture from clothes and converts it into the steam within the drum. Next, the condensation chamber made of either plastic or metal is cooled from outside with the use of cold water. During this stage, the steam is again condensed into water, which is drained from the main machine into the water-holding tank of RV.
Usually, the owners of RV avoid using this model because it not only takes a longer time to dry clothes but also uses more water during the whole process.
To clean your dirty clothes, while traveling on road in the recreational vehicles, you can consider looking at the following list of major RV washers and dryers,
1. RV Stackable Washer and Dryer
These types of RV washers and dryers are quite common, as they work much like the ones used at homes. With same loading units like those that are at home, it allows washing around 12-pounds of clothes in single run. Moreover, if someone wishes to use both the washer and the dryer at the same time, it is easy and requires less time than the other several types of it.
2. RV Washer and Dryer Combo
An ultimate blend of convenience and efficiency, this combination of RV washer and dryer is used widely by the RVers. No doubt, it needs a large amount of water and power consumption. But it has several other benefits to offer that overpower this drawback. For instance, it takes less space inside the vehicle, and handles both washing and drying in a single drum. Moreover, it automatically shifts from one operation to another, and gives dry and clean clothes at the end of process.
TIP: Prefer using it over the stackable washer and dryer because of the less power consumption in comparison to the former.
3. Portable RV Washer and Dryer
The portable dryers and washers are mostly non-vented and complete the washing process within 20-30 minutes. Some of the models of these washers and dryers need electric power whereas some simply need elbows greasing.
Mainly the RVs, which don’t have much space inside, prefer using this type of portable washers and dryers.
Hope after knowing about these several types of washers and dryers, you can get your laundry work done easily on road. And, enjoy your road vacation in the recreational vehicle.
Finding the Best RV Washer Dryer Combo: Top Features to Consider
Some of you may only care about the price and duration of a washing machine before deciding to buy it. There are however a certain of aspects that you should look at in order to get the right RV washer dryer combo – a perfect solution for laundry work.
Dimension
Always remember to take into account the size of the machine and the vehicle available space. Look for a spot on the RV that let you use the washer dryer conveniently without obstructing people movements. Luckily, most of the product got a rather compact profile, they shall fit in tight spaces nicely. The weight of the average combo is around 150 – 200 Lbs depending on the capacity. Some of them come with a helpful set of wheels as well. In the average case, you should have an easy time moving the machine around.
Load capacity
The compact profile of the RV washer dryer combos means a relatively modest load capacity compared to household design. A usual product is often able to handle roughly 10 – 15 Lbs worth of fabric per use. As a result, you have to run the machine multiple times to thoroughly wash and dry your clothes. To determine the appropriate specification for the washer dryer, calculate your daily washing requirement. The time it takes to dry everything is quite important too. These should help you narrow down the number of choices to choose from.
Noise
The best RV washer dryer combo will come with the least sound. A loud washer dryer is really inconvenient to use, especially at nighttime. Since the RV space is not exactly far and wide, it’s natural for the occupants to be disturbed by the noise of the machine. Hence, it’s best to get a product that emits the least amount of noise as possible. It’s recommended to go after models which employ direct drive or tri-phase motor. The motors are well known for their quiet operations. There are also other features to further tone down the machine noise, allowing you to use the washer dryer in peace.
Drum
Inspect the machine drum carefully, it got a major role in deciding the durability of the washer dryer. Besides stainless steel, the drum could utilize plastic or porcelain, these are not very reliable, not to mention problems with temperature and speed. As time goes by, the machine operations generate heat that may melt the plastic or disfigure the porcelain. Operating the washer dryer at high-speed setting could outright break these materials as well. So it’s advised to only consider products possessing a stainless steel drum.
Efficiency
Another factor that the best RV washer dryer combo must offer is efficiency. Saving money and water is one of your primary priorities here, the machine efficiency must be comparable to its effectiveness. To live in an RV mean you have to conserve the vehicle resources whenever possible and the washer dryer is not an exception. Use the products Energy Star rating as references to decide which one got the kind of efficiency you desire. A notable sight of an efficient machine is a built-in horizontal wash system. The design uses the least amount of water and energy compared to other products to get the job done.
Wash programs
Different fabric demand different washing conditions, a washer dryer with multiple wash programs shall offer excellent versatility in daily washing. A suitable set of programs allow to wash anything from the tough beach towel to the delicate silk and so on. The more programs a machine got, the higher the price tag becomes. Expect approximately 10 – 12 programs on most washer dryer while in high-end models, the number could reach as high as 14. You don’t have to purchase the most expensive product out there though, simply get what you need
Splendide WD2100XC is the #1 choice?
The price tag of the machine makes it not really an affordable choice for people shopping on a budget. But if you got money to spare, the Splendide WD2100XC quality performance shall never let you down. The durable drum and straightforward control scheme allow everyone to put the machine to good use. I bought this specific Splendide WD2100XC washer/dryer combo unit specifically because it is vented. I have heard and read the ventless units really don’t dry that well.
Pros:
– Set it and forget it. Washer/dryer combo, set the controls, add detergent/softener and hit start.
– Cleans cloths very well
– Compact unit, needed to fit in the laundry closet in my RV
– Easy to install, came with needed hoses (had to purchase dryer hose)
Cons:
– Small loads only, three loads equals one in my house washing machine
– Takes three hours per wash
– Does not have a delay timer
– Shakes the entire trailer during spin cycle
– Drying heavy items can take over 60 minutes (my typical setting) even without too many clothes
– Wrinkles clothes even if take out of dryer immediately
Even though the pro/con list is fairly split and I would never purchase something with a similar list for my home, I am extremely glad I have this machine in my trailer. Just the cost of going to the campground laundry and using quarters will be covered within a year (wife, myself and dogs in the RV). I stay in my trailer for work and having the convenience of a washing machine makes my weekends much better.
We probably do close to 10 loads per week (one almost every night) and the machine has held up great. Some reviews have mentioned the dry time will increase as it gets older. This is because lint builds up. There isn’t a lint trap, I assume because it is also a washing machine. I have been told all that is needed is to spray water in the exhaust and it will clean out the unit. The water just ends up in the pan and will be flushed out on the next use. My neighbor at a campground did this and said it worked great. Overall, I would definitely keep this unit or purchase a new unit if/when I get a new RV.
We have a 40′ RV and travel alot. Overall our Splendide w/d/ has worked satisfactory for the last 7 years. We’re in Florida now for two months and our Splendide model ( 2100 ) broke the one and only belt it has. No one and I mean no one in the United states carries any parts for these w/d except Westland Sales in Clackamas, Oregon. I spent four days trying to get Westland Sales to return the phone message that they ask me to leave on there machine. Westland has no one LIVE to talk to. After no help, I then started calling RV Dealers in the state of florida. Some took my part number for the belt and said they would get back to me but never did. Some refered me back to Westland and I told them Westland does not return phone calls thinking they would somehow come to my rescue. That didn’t work either. One RV dealer in Wildwood, Florida came the closest to being able to lelp me. Well, maybe I should say they gave me a price on the belt and said they would get back to me on the shipping charges. Needless to say, that didn’t happen. I called back for two days and only got a run around. At that point I didn’t know Westland was the only supplier of parts in the US. What I did figure out was the RV dealers that did try to help me were not getting any response from Splendide (Westland). So after being BENT OUT OF SHAPE for five days and no help, I called Customer Service at the Company that built my Coach. Even though My Coach is seven years old the customer service man was ready and willing to help me. The price of the Belt, $103.00 plus a $ 25.00 three day shipping charge. They were not marking the Belt up because this is the price I was given several days earlier without shipping at the place in Wildwood, Florida. Anyway, I told the customer service man to send it. He stated it had to come from his Vendor and they would ship it directly to me. I received the Belt three days later as he promised . His name was Rob and he works for MONACO Coach in Oregon and I greatly appreciate the help he gave me.
The last comment I will make is the $ 103.00 belt is the biggest RIP OFF I have ever had in my 70 years. It probably cost $ 2.00 to make, but what are you going to do. Take it or leave it.
I have been using a Splendide 2000S for about five years now. I found it very insufficient using anything but super setting and to only load it about 1/3rd full…and this took hours upon hours plus a good three hours on top of that to dry. I purchased a laundry spinner to spin the excess water out of the loads between wash and dry cycles, eventually, in order to speed up the drying time after a couple years of frustration. This machine is FAR superior. The settings are intelligent, it has sufficient space inside, the loads wash and dry quicker and more efficiently. I no longer need the spinner, because it spins the laundry out perfectly. It is much quieter and stays in place. The old machine really shook up the trailer and made a lot of noise, this one does not. The door handle is also improved. The laundry even comes out smelling and feeling fresher than it did in the other machine.
My wife and I bought this Splendide WD2100XC four years ago when we first purchased our fifth wheel trailer. At the time we assumed that it would be a great convenience while traveling to Alaska. While on that trip this was the case as we used it perhaps once a week with no problems. You learn to wash small loads and quickly pull everything out as soon as the dry cycle is complete. Now if the story was to end here we would have a happy ending. Unfortunately, the following year the problems began. First the door switch went bad requiring a new $78 replacement with no service support available in our area. Then, while flushing the trailer with anti-freeze, I neglected to turn the water on to the unit so the next spring the manifold had split This was not the fault of the product but mine for not flushing the washer. Again, however, as there is no service or parts available the task to replace is very difficult. This year the door quit closing properly due to a stripped hinge screw. I need to replace the door, the hinge, and the latch for a cost of $150 in parts only. The life of a washer/dryer in an RV can be tough. Access to the unit is tight requiring a great deal of time to position the unit to access. Roads are rough and full of bumps that can shake the machine and cause some of the damage I have listed. The real issue is service. NO ONE wants to work on these things because it is so difficult to get parts and access the machine. Buy this washer from a dealer who is local and is willing to service and replace if needed. Remember, there is only ONE place to buy parts and that is a tough, tough call and a long wait. Last, ask yourself how many loads can I wash at a campground park for $1300?
Other than this Splendide being a heavy unit to install yourself in an upstairs closet of a 5th wheel, it works OK, we take our clothes out before dryer finishes or everything will come out wrinkled. Winterizing instruction can be found online as the manual that comes with it does not tell you what to do. Kind of silly when these seem to mainly go in campers. I might consider splitting the washer and dryer if I ever replace it.
Being a first time owner of a washer/dryer combo, I had issues. But once I read the owner’s manual I found out it was pretty easy to use. There are still some wrinkle problems, but I am pretty sure I can find a way to work through them. All in all, I love it. I am using it in my home to save space as my kitchen is very small and that is where it is located. It is much quieter than my old washer and dryer. Being that I am living alone, I don’t need to have large loads except for when I want to wash a comforter. I was wasting water using my old style washer for small loads. Being that this model is vented, helps with dry time as well.
I live in a very small manufactured home in a 55+ park (seniors only). This Splendide unit is a perfect fit for my tiny space. It works great, though it is very small so I do many small loads instead of the several large loads I would normally do each week. The unit is very quiet except when it spins. It spins very fast, so othe clothes dry much faster, but my little house shakes when it spins. A tip: dry for a shorter time than you think. Leave the clothes just a bit moist and hang them to dry that last bit – it will avoid wrinkling. Also use a liquid fabric softener (no dryer sheets; they clog up the lint filter). I love this little machine – one of the few smart investments I have made.
Washing now on my boat. This Splendide Combo washer/dryer using 110vac are known to not work well. Vented version is what I searched for and this one has all the requirements met. Dryer has less capacity than the washer, but this was advised by the company prior to my purchase. Not a big deal because you just do other things while waiting for the dryer time. Overall, a pile of laundry with women’s, men’s, towels, etc takes us about twice as long versus full size laundry systems – but we have it in our “home”. No more left over bleach ruining our clothes, waiting for a dryer available after washing, or other people’s hair left on the machine uncleaned by the laundry provider. Using the public laundry cost us about $10 or more for every week’s laundry. That’s $500 per year and less hassle.
This Splendide washer/dryer does take a little longer to do a load of laundry, but not much. It is very convenient to throw the close in and come back with them dry and ready to fold. Clothes dry just as well as they do in a normal dryer. A load that might take 40 minutes to dry normally will take about 60 minutes to dry in this machine. Freaking love it!
This the bomb! But please read the instructions if it’s your 1st combo. Our house flooded out and lots of clothes & towels got mucky flood water on them. They have been washed multiple times where we are staying with high end laundry soap in a practically new washer & dryer set. I could still faintly smell the flood aroma. After one washing in the Splendide with 2 Tablespoons of liquid dollar store soap & nothing else the odor is totally gone!
I love this little machine, Splendide! We installed it in our tiny house that we rent out. It washes and dries small loads in about 2 hours. I wanted a ventable unit because other reviewers had trouble with the 2 in 1 units that don’t vent outside. We vented this one and it’s so nice. If you don’t overload the machine, there is no problem with wrinkles. We’ve had it for about 6 months and no issues. Only complaint is removing shipping screws is a pain.
Ordering a vented unit makes this an ideal purchase for a studio apartment. What also helps was a great delivery service that — despite many obstacles — arrived on the day scheduled, and the driver, at 7:00 in the evening, who carried the washer up a flight of stairs because he felt badly about arriving so late in the afternoon. The manufacturer, Splendide, makes a great product, and the delivery company, Anywhere Express, made receiving it easy.
I have had this same washer/dryer combo now, in an older model, for 12 years. Have not had any service problems except for the handle to open the door breaking and the soap drawer front finally falling totally off and a couple cracks in the plastic trim. Functionally this machine is solid. We are full time RVers and use this machine a lot. Cleaning the lint out is a pain in the butt, other than that we love using it. and rarely visit a laundry mat. When this one finally gives up I will be getting another.
We have lived full time in our RV for ten years. I have had the same Splendide 2100 Vented Washer/Dryer on board and used it exclusively for all my washing and drying in all ten years we have lived in our motorhome. I love it and until just last week have never, ever had any problem with it. Last week the dryer was still spinning but no heat only air dry. I called Motorsports Plus On site RV Repair 828-776-2901 here in Asheville, NC. They came out and discovered it was just a broken wire, they fixed it. I am just thrilled at the long term usage I have had with this unit. The clothes have always come out very clean, cleaner than my other brand house washing machine ever did.
I installed one Splendide 2100 in my RV and it works beautifully!
I use snuggle fabric softener and haven’t found the wrinkling issues others spoke of. It is very quiet, I watched a movie while it was running, and didn’t notice it until it got to the spin cycle. The whole RV was vibrating slightly (with jacks down) but I was so happy about the W/D in the RV I didn’t care. Watching it run for the first time is eye opening, it goes really slow, makes you think it might not clean the clothes, but it does a great job. (just don’t be in a hurry). I would definitely recommend this to anyone!
We love the Splendide washer/dryer combo for our 5th wheel! We paid $1.400 including installation from the dealer so I think the amazon price is right on. It does run 2-2/12 hours for a load but its so quiet we don’t mind it at all. I can even sleep in the master bedroom with it running. It does shake the 5th wheel a little bit on the spin cycle but no more then a little gust of wind. I would definitely buy this again and it would be perfect for a tiny house as well! We have 4-6 kids and two adults and didn’t do laundry for 4 days and Im not even behind. It holds more then I expected and the clothes come out completely dry, even the towels!
Thanks for the reviews, Carlos. Just installed my new Splendide 2100xc combo unit last weekend after purchasing one from Amazon (This article persuaded me). I put this unit in a park model and it fit perfectly . I’m really impressed with the craftsmanship of this unit. When I started the unit up I was very pleased with the quiet operation as it went through a wash cycle. The clothes do come out wrinkled but it beats going to a laundry mat or taking them home to wash after a week or two vacation. Very happy with this unit!!!
Have you ever noticed how the capacity of the dryers at the laundromat are bigger than the washers? That’s because the clothes need lots of room to tumble. The instructions state that the capacity for drying is less than for washing, so I almost never run a cycle straight through from wash to dry unless it’s one item, like a blanket. (Yes, I wash my queen sized heavy cotton blanket in here!). I generally wash a load of clothes, then remove the shirts, place them on hangars in the shower, and dry the jeans, shorts and underwear left in the dryer for an hour. The shirts last longer, dry quickly, as the machine does a great job with the spin cycle, and last longer. I also wash a set of sheets the same way, I used to dry the top and bottom separately, but I found that the bottom was practically dry by the time the top came out, so now I just let it finish air drying. Don’t overload the machine, and it’ll do a great job for you!
There aren’t many vented combo washer/dryers out there. I did a lot of research and bought this Splendide WD2100XC for my condo to maximize space. It looks like it’s primarily intended for boat/RV use. Overall I am very happy. Although the capacity is low, the ability to put clothes in and then have the unit wash and dry them without any additional intervention is surprisingly convenient. And the dryer does dry – which I’ve heard is not the case with unvented units. Only issue is that there seems to be more wrinkling than with a conventional unit. Not sure why this would be (perhaps I’m doing something wrong) but I have noticed it.
Hi.
Wanted to know if your company is open to digital marketing such as SEO, PPC, Social Media and more for outdoorfact.com.
Theres a number of digital marketing analysts I work with who are incredibly experienced in the digital marketing space, and are familiar with your line of work. Theyd even be able to show you a few impressive case studies.
Curious to know: Would it be alright to have them quickly get in contact with you at and discuss? And what time works best for you?
